Solicitor/Licensed Conveyancer/Legal Executive – Residential Property

FMT Solicitors’ Conveyancing department is dedicated to providing clients with clear, practical advice when buying or selling their homes. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Solicitor/Licensed Conveyancer/Legal Executive to join our team and manage residential property transactions from instruction through to completion.

The successful candidate will ideally have experience handling a caseload of residential conveyancing matters including freehold and leasehold transactions. They will work closely with clients, estate agents, lenders and colleagues to ensure transactions progress efficiently while maintaining high standards of client care and regulatory compliance. The role offers the opportunity to work within a supportive and collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing a caseload of residential conveyancing matters from instruction through to completion, including both freehold and leasehold transactions.
  • Preparing, reviewing and drafting legal documents including contracts for sale, transfer deeds, mortgage documentation and completion statements.
  • Advising and updating clients, estate agents, mortgage lenders and other third parties throughout the transaction process.
  • Undertaking due diligence including title checks, property searches (local authority, environmental and drainage) and reviewing replies to enquiries.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements including Anti-Money Laundering (AML), data protection requirements and Law Society and SRA rules.
  • Preparing completion statements and facilitating the transfer of client funds in accordance with SRA Accounts Rules.
  • Calculating and submitting Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) returns and arranging payment where required.
  • Managing post-completion work including registering transactions with HM Land Registry and providing completed documentation to clients and lenders.

Skills:

  • Experience managing a residential conveyancing caseload within a law firm environment.
  • Qualified Licensed Conveyancer, Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive (CILEx)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise effectively with clients, colleagues and third parties.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously.
  • Good understanding of IT systems relevant to legal practice management.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently under deadlines.
  • Professional and client-focused approach to service delivery.
